The fastest safe workflow is to compare copies before changing them. This prevents an already-compressed download from becoming the new master.
- Open the video from the device library first
Use the capture or original editor export that is still stored on the phone. A downloaded attachment may have a different resolution, bitrate, or encode history.
- Check Google Photos backup details
In Google Photos, open the video and view its details to identify the backup quality and size. This tells you whether the cloud copy may be a reduced rendition.
- Compare a difficult moving moment
Use motion, dark gradients, foliage, or small text. A paused frame can make compression blocks look less obvious than they do while playing.
- Use edits for tone and stability, not invented focus

- Export or transfer once when another app needs a file
Keep the original untouched. If a compatible H.264 copy is needed, create one deliberate export instead of repeatedly saving and resending a chat attachment.

Moderate compression or a small source can improve, but severe missed focus, camera shake, and clipped detail remain limited cases.

Understand Original quality, Storage saver, and sharing
These options describe different copies of a video. They do not turn a soft capture into a sharp one, and they should not be confused with a repair setting.
Original quality keeps the recorded resolution
Google Photos states that Original quality stores photos and videos at the resolution they were taken with no quality change. It uses Google Account storage, so make sure the relevant device had that backup option before assuming every cloud copy is the master.
Storage saver can reduce a larger Android video
Google documents that videos above 1080p may be resized to high-definition 1080p in Storage saver. A 4K camera recording can therefore be useful as an original even when a cloud copy looks acceptable at a smaller size.
Sharing can create a different copy again

Use enhancement for the remaining defect—not every Android video
An enhancement result should be judged in motion and at the device size where the video will actually be watched.
- Use a better backup or device original when it exists; it is usually safer than processing a shared copy.
- Use local playback checks when only one app looks soft.
- Use a deliberate re-export when the edit project or an export setting caused the damage.
- Use enhancement for compatible low resolution or compression after the earlier checks.
- Do not promise exact recovery from severe out-of-focus capture or motion blur.
